Sonia Sotomayor was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. Her parents had come from Puerto Rico looking for better job opportunities. After her father’s death when she was nine, her mother raised her on her own in a housing project in the South Bronx. Sonia Sotomayor originally wanted to be a detective, but she was diagnosed with diabetes. To maintain her health, she took insulin shots. As she grew older, she worked very hard in class and was an excellent student. After graduating, she became a lawyer and ensured that innocent people received justice. She was then noticed by lawmakers and asked to become a judge. After some time, President Barack Obama appointed her as a Justice to the Supreme Court.
